JFK: Volume One

The extraordinary life of John F Kennedy, America’s youngest president, continues to inspire people around the world. Kennedy’s journey from being the sickly second son to a young senator and star of the 1956 Democratic National Convention is fascinating.

Using previously unseen archival material, Fredrik Logevall will explore the life of Kennedy, a war hero and playboy student up until 1956 when he made the fateful decision to run for President of the United States.

He will be in conversation with Daniel Finkelstein, journalist and author of Everything in Moderation.

Fredrik Logevall is a historian and author who won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for History for his book Embers of War. He is the Laurence D Belfer Professor of International Affairs at Harvard’s John F Kennedy School and Professor of History at Harvard University. He is the author and editor of ten books.

He will be hosted by Daniel Finkelstein, a British journalist and opinion writer, who brings to that role long experience in politics. This August a collection of his columns was published by William Collins. Everything in Moderation includes many articles on historical subjects including prime ministerial biographies and profiles of major figures such as Robert McNamara and Ted Sorensen. A former executive editor of The Times, he continues to write for the paper. He has been political columnist of the year four times. Before joining The Times in 2001, he was adviser to prime minister John Major and Conservative leader William Hague. He was appointed to the House of Lords in 2013.

A copy of Fredrik Logevall’s book JFK: Volume I, 1917-56 can be purchased as part of a book and ticket offer for this event. Alternatively, copies will be available for purchase via a link on the virtual event page on the day of the event.
