Description

Introducing a vibrant cast of over 125 actors, singers, dancers, sportspeople, freaks, demigods and ruffians, Greg Jenner goes in search of the history of celebrity. He will reveal how fame was maintained, the effect it had on the public, and the psychological burden stardom had on many in the limelight.

It is a surprising and funny story of both a bygone age and how we came to be a modern, fame-obsessed society.

Greg Jenner is a public historian, broadcaster and author, and an Honorary Research Associate at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is the Historical Consultant to the BBC's Horrible Histories and host of the BBC comedy podcast You're Dead To Me! His first book, A Million Years in a Day, was translated into nine languages.

A copy of Greg Jenner's book Dead Famous: An Unexpected History of Celebrity from Bronze Age to Silver Screen can be purchased as part of a book and ticket offer for this event. Alternatively, copies will be available for purchase via a link on the virtual event page on the day of the event.
